about

An uplifting blues-rock gem with howling harmonica fills, ‘Rhyme of the Ancient Dance Party’ reminisces about the joy of congregating and community, when friends and family would fill homes and halls with singing and dancing, laughing and eating.

“Whether celebrating winning or losing, a birthday or a wedding, spontaneous or otherwise, where friends and laughter fill kitchens and alcoves, garages and lounge rooms, dancing, eating and being merry within company; we all need these elements in our life. Without friends, family and interactions with new people around us, life can feel banal, sad and dull.” Cody says.

He continues: “Memories within the song hark back to growing up on the far South Coast of New South Wales. My parents would have parties, inviting the whole neighbourhood to our mudbrick house in the bush, with a bonfire waiting to be lit on guests’ arrival. Brown paper bags would be filled with sand and tea lights that shon and faded as the night grew on. Kids would run off, playing games, and adults would do the same in their own way.”

lyrics

Rhyme of the Ancient Dance Party

In they come the most beautiful of artists Cuddled by designer glasses
I'm jealous I love them dearly
When they speak it ain't so clearly

I sit and ramble on
Where you been where you from Canada hey that's ok
Maybe i'll end up there when I’m old

Like the cat waits for the tapping of tin
The kettle to the breakfast bin
It never really was mine
Just a sense of me passing time

Music plays to the guests in the garden
We didn't hear the speeches from the wind that was passing
The night moves to its old self
We cheered for love and toasted for ourselves

Candy in that machine of yours
I'm happy when you’re home of course
Break the silence verses need them
Your sharp burst nurses them

Floral dress says its a summer party
But others had ideas about that too
Going to get in early going to stay out late
going to eat a couple of pieces of chocolate cake

The children in the spare room
And the adults in the other spare
While singing so long Marianne

A women here she dances
Love and money
And work and pleasure
It's not what we done but we do together

The night turns to its old self
We cheered for love and we cheered for ourselves
Those that have nothing to lose
Have taken off their expensive shoes
A dangerous manoeuvre
A midnight cruiser
Turned off the power
And counted back from ten
Closed the blinds and said goodbye

That's when we really began to dance
We left it all up to chance
Head for the light
The end is peaking

Everyones laughing everyones speaking
Be happy for what you've done
Go on get in get to know someone
We’re not ready to go home

Hell I wasn't even born alone
Love and money and work and pleasure
It's not what we done but we do together
the night moves to its old self

We cheered for love and we toasted for ourselves
Alright now
One more night
One more night
Just give it up
Just give it up
